Pink Floyd The Wall: Immersion box set

Pink Floyd The Wall: Immersion features the classic studio album digitally remastered and presented as a limited-edition, high quality boxset featuring rare and unreleased audio and video material, plus a new 44-page booklet, a book of original photographs, facsimile collectables and memorabilia such as marbles that someone can take away. Seriously, this is the definitive release of The Wall to date.

The set still catches flack due to its emphasis on “stuff” at the expense of recorded audio and video. Personally, I don’t mind the stuff and think much of it is interesting, unique and relevant. The two books are filled with photos of the live shows. One of the books was edited by Jill Furmanovsky who photographed many of these classic photos. These are reproduced here in much higher quality than the smaller sizes found on the web. The replicas of tour memorabilia are reproduced with attention to detail and extreme accuracy. The printed pieces are on high-grade stock and are quality work.

Both sets of printed lyrics are the “corrected” version that match the album — without “What Shall We Do Now?” and with “Empty Spaces” preceding “Young Lust”. The books are light on any new details from the creation, production or performances of The Wall. The book which accompanied the original releases of Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live 1980-81 is much more informative in that regard.

The video content contains only a few fragments of the film shot by Alan Parker of the 1981 live shows. For a fan willing to drop whatever cash the band’s label dictates for releases such as these, this footage is a cruel tease. The scarf (scarfe?) would be cool if it were not so flimsy as to be unwearable. Still, I bought this box set for the music on discs 3 through 6. To me, the added materials are a nice bonus.

An excellent detailed unboxing of the set can be found in “An in-depth look at Pink Floyd’s ‘the Wall’ Immersion box set” by Hans Morgenstern on the old Independent Ethos site. Below, I try to sort out the demo recordings on discs 5 and 6 of the set.

The Wall Immersion Box Set is currently out of print but can still be ordered worldwide on Amazon. Tap here.
